New photos of the facelifted Cayenne are here and as expected, the front of the Cayenne gets load of the changes, while the rear end getting only a few touch ups.
Porsche Cayenne, Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo
Porsche is small company (for an automotive manufacturer) and traditionally dedicated to sport coupes and convertibles, so it was kind of shock when Porsche partnered with Volkswagen to develop the Cayenne. It shares the platform and some mechanicals with the VW Touareg and the forthcoming 2007 Audi Q7 will be yet another card built on this platform.
Second most powerful Porsche is SUV! Porsche unveiled new model of Cayenne on Detroit autosalon - Called Turbo S. It is the second most powerful Porsche next to Carrera GT. Top performance now peaks at 383 kW, acceleration to 100 km/h is 5,2 seconds.
Porsche designed the Cayenne to be as capable off-road as it would be on road. In reality, few owners likely take their Cayennes anywhere close to a trail and the vehicle would probably sell just as well (or better) as a sportier car-based crossover.
The Porsche Cayenne is equipped with a bunch of hardcore components for off-road vehicle, like permanent four-wheel drive, an inter-axle differential lock, high-tech hill descent/ascent control and a transfer case for low-range gearing. You can order also as a part of personalisation Advanced Off-Road package, which includes front and rear stabilizer bars, which improve on-road handling, that hydraulically disengage to enhance suspension performance on rough terrain. The Cayenne's robust chassis is vailable to tow more than 7,700 pounds, which is high for a midsize SUV.
Aside from the coming mid-cycle freshening, a hybrid version of the Cayenne may be offered before 2009. Automotive News reported that Porsche may build a hybrid Cayenne using a Toyota power engine, adapted from the version used in the Lexus RX 400h.
Is Porsche Cayenne for you?
Buy it when you want to stand out, when you are a Porsche fan who needs the versatility of an SUV and if you don't like Slovakia-made VW Touareg.
Porsche Cayenne alternatives / substitues
As you know, there is no substitute for Porsche, but anyway, cars like BMW X5, Infiniti FX 45 Lexus GX 470, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, Land Rover Range Rover Supercharged, Mercedes-Benz M-Class, and Volkswagen Touareg are far close to Cayenne.
